Foreword
Hearing people have great difficulty in imagining what it is like to be deaf, not least because
deafness has many forms and guises. Even a temporary taste of deafness cannot prepare one adequately
to face a future of impaired hearing.
Thus when one is faced with the prospect of deafness for the rest of your life, you need to learn
from the experience of others. In making that experience accessible to those who are newly deafened
this booklet provides a valuable resource to help each individual person come to terms with their own
individual deafness. I congratulate the authors on a timely, helpful and essential document.
